This integration will allow you to send pro bono opportunities from LegalServer to be shared with your Paladin network.
👉 If you haven't yet completed the integration, please follow the steps in this article to set-up your integration.
👉 For a short overview of the benefits of the integration, check out this page!
Integration Functionality
Once configuration is complete and a bearer token is exchanged, the LSO admin(s) will see a tab in their Paladin dashboard called “LegalServer.”
When an LSO admin sends opportunities to Paladin via the integration, the cases will appear under the LegalServer tab. All opportunities will default to a status of Draft, and will need to be reviewed and published by the LSO Admin. Opportunities sent via the LegalServer integration will not automatically publish in Paladin.
Selecting a case to review and publish opens the Opportunity Form, and the information sent by LegalServer will be published to the form. Currently, the following fields are able to be populated via LegalServer:
Title
Case Number
Description (see limitations below)
Engagement Type*
Time Commitment
Skills Developed*
Appropriate Volunteer
Expiration Date
Paladin's opportunity form has additional selections beyond those available in LegalServer, and some are required, so please be sure to add those during review.
Example of the Opportunity Form when opened from the LegalServer tab:
Once the opportunity is reviewed and published, it becomes an independent record in Paladin and operates like any other opportunity being managed in Paladin.
The integration also includes an optional placement add-on. With this add-on, when a volunteer is placed on Paladin, LegalServer is updated with that volunteer's information. Similarly, Paladin will update placement status when a volunteer has been assigned in LegalServer.
FAQ
Support:
Who should I contact for technical support?
For Paladin, email [email protected] or use the chat box on the site. For LegalServer, email [email protected].
Overview:
What is an API?
API stands for "application programming interface." An API allows one software to "talk to" another software, to send requests and carry out tasks.
What is the Paladin x LegalServer integration?
Paladin's API with LegalServer was built to lessen duplicative work for LSO admins who use both systems.
Matter sharing: This enables LSO admins to send pro bono matters from LegalServer's pro bono module directly to Paladin for review and publishing.
Placements: This offers the ability for volunteer placements initiated in Paladin to be reflected on the case record in LegalServer, and will even create a volunteer record if needed. Additionally, the API polls the LegalServer instance twice a day to synchronize placement data from LegalServer. New placements will be updated in Paladin with the name and email of the volunteer.
Can I use Paladin without the LegalSever integration?
Yes! If you don't use LegalServer, or don't wish to use the integration, there will be no change in how Paladin works for your organization.
Is there a cost to add the integration to my organization's Paladin account?
No. This new API can be used by all LSOs with a LegalServer account, and -- like all of Paladin's tools for LSOs -- is provided at no cost.
Is there a cost to use the Pro Bono Module? How do I add the Pro Bono Module to my LegalServer account?
The Pro Bono Module is included in organizational LegalServer accounts at no additional cost. Contact [email protected] for guidance on setting it up for your organization.
Functionality:
How do I find the integration tools? Do I still need to maintain separate logins?
In Paladin, go to the "LegalServer" tab to view pending and published opportunities sent from LegalServer. Your LegalServer and Paladin accounts will remain separate and have their own logins.
What additional information will I need to add to an opportunity in order to publish it in Paladin?
You will need to add Practice Area and Causes & Communities tags. You will also have the ability to edit, add, or remove any other information contained in the opportunity form before you publish.
Will opportunities be automatically published on Paladin once added to the LegalServer Pro Bono Module? Can I send only some of my LegalServer opportunities to Paladin, or do I have to share all of them?
Opportunities will never be automatically transferred or published without your action. Paladin only receives those opportunities that you select to send from LegalServer, and you can choose which you'd like to send and when.
What information will Paladin have access to in my LegalServer account?
Paladin only sees the information contained in the opportunities you share from LegalServer. Our systems have no access to your organization's LegalServer data.
How can I add on the Placement functionality?
The placement functionality enables synchronization of volunteer placements between Paladin and LegalServer. LegalServer may charge a fee for this additional integration functionality. Please contact [email protected] for more information.
