Paladin’s admin tools enable you to create, share, and manage available pro bono opportunities in one centralized place.

Creating Pro Bono Opportunities in Paladin

The following provides an overview of some of the key fields within the opportunity creation process.

Select “+ New Pro Bono Opportunity” to open the opportunity form.

Now you can create a new opportunity:

  1. Opportunity Type: You will be prompted to choose the type of opportunity that you are entering, and the form will expand with additional fields appropriate for the Opportunity Type.

  2. Title: Enter a descriptive, concise and clear name for the opportunity. We do not recommend including or sharing personal identifying information in the opportunity title or description.

  3. Description: Outline the opportunity in further detail using the “Description”. This will form the primary content of the opportunity listing and should replace the current step in your workflow of creating an email, case digest, word document etc. You can then circulate this more broadly, and manage one record that is updated in real time.

  4. Referring Organization: Use the “Referring Organization” drop down menu to select which organization you are inputting this opportunity on behalf of.

  5. Engagement Type: Select the type of engagement. You can choose from Advising (Non-Litigation), Fixed Time Commitment, Litigation, Policy Advocacy & Research, Training & Education and Transactional.

  6. Licensing Information: Enter any licensing requirements for the matter.

  7. Location: Define the location requirements for working on a matter in more detail.

  8. Time Commitment: Potential volunteers are especially interested in understanding the time commitment involved. Be sure to enter your best estimate so volunteers can plan accordingly to ensure a good fit.

  9. Categorization: Categorize the opportunity by Practice Area and Community Served. You must select at least one, and up to four in each category. Attorneys can browse, sort and filter by these tags on the internal database. Ensuring you tag opportunities correctly increases visibility, leading to higher engagement.

  10. Qualifications: Enter any volunteer qualifications needed for this specific matter.

  11. Skill Development: Select any skills that may be developed while working on this matter that volunteers can look forward to grow professionally in. Additionally, please enter any required experience needed for this opportunity or requirements for language proficiencies.

  12. Training & Support Details: This information helps a potential volunteer assess the fit of the opportunity. Enter any training provided. This is also where you can note if a supervising attorney is required or provided.

  13. Expiration Date: Enter an expiration date for the matter. Note that the maximum length of time to recruit is six month from the creation date. You will have the option to edit the opportunity in the future if you need to extend the recruiting timeframe.

Publishing Opportunities ("Send To...")

  1. Once you've entered all relevant information, click on the "Send To..." drop-down at the bottom of the page to select the teams to which you would like to share the opportunity. Only those teams selected will be able to view the opportunity and express interest.

  2. Once you click on "Create Opportunity," the opportunity will immediately be available to those teams. It will remain available until it either expires or you manually “stop recruiting” – effectively removing the listing from circulation wherever it has been shared. You can do this at any point.

Removing Teams From an Opportunity:

If you need to remove certain teams from an opportunity, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the pencil icon to edit the opportunity.

  2. Update “Share With…” details: Navigate to the Listing Details section at the bottom of the form and notice that the Recipients indicators now have an “X” option. Click the X to remove the chosen recipient(s) from Opportunity Sharing list.

  3. Save the Opportunity with the Modifications: Once you click “SAVE”, you will be presented with the messaging below.

**NOTE: If volunteers have already expressed interest from this team, they will receive an email that informs them of the change and that prompts them to look for a new opportunity.
